Herekore & Warfare

Kia Ora Whaanau,

One of the main things that has left us vulnerable is in our understanding of warfare. For so many of us we think that freedom means that something gets broken off us and then the battle is over. But what freedom really means is that Holy Spirit is empowering you to keep fighting against the tactics of the enemy. It would be like in a real war setting, one side takes a hill in a fight and then proceeds to throw away their weapons because they won that battle. Well what does the enemy do? Comes right back. We need to prepare ourselves for a marathon and not a sprint so that we don’t get discouraged. For most of us, the enemy will bring the same temptation or warfare to us for most of our lives, the only thing that changes is in our ability to get better and better at fighting it.

Our freedom is knowing that Wairua Tapu has empowered us to win again and again and again. If you are working really hard to forgive someone, the enemy will keep testing you on that. Satan will continue to tempt you to gossip about that person, run them down, think badly about them and lead you back into bitterness. But we have to learn how to fight. Jesus knew scripture. We need to know scripture. If you were struggling with forgiveness you need a response. Scripture gives us a way to respond e.g. Ephesians 4:31-32 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

This week learn one scripture off by heart preferably with others. Don’t expect your freedom to remain if it’s dependant on a Sunday moment of breakthrough. You carry the breakthrough!
